BP's Leadership Changes and Governance Issues

BP (LSE:BP) ousted Chair Albert Manifold with immediate effect on Tuesday, citing governance standards, oversight and conduct issues, less than eight months after he took office to help oversee a strategy revamp. This is the latest in a string of scandals and leadership changes at the oil company.

Manifold's Ouster

Manifold was removed in May 2026. He had been appointed to help with a strategy revamp but was forced out due to governance and conduct issues.

Previous CEO Changes

Manifold's departure follows the 2023 dismissal of former CEO Bernard Looney and the abrupt exit of CEO Murray Auchincloss last year. Looney was dismissed for failing to disclose relationships with colleagues.
