Brazil Presidential Hopeful Bolsonaro Meets US Officials
Brazilian Senator and presidential contender Flavio Bolsonaro met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Wednesday, following an Oval Office visit with President Donald Trump the day before.
Meeting Agenda
The senator said discussions included fighting organized crime, rare earths, and freedom of expression. The health condition of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for plotting a coup, was also addressed.
Political Crisis and Polls
Flavio Bolsonaro faces a political crisis after acknowledging he asked a jailed banker for money to fund a film about his father. He denies any wrongdoing. Although he lost ground in opinion polls after the case became public, he remains statistically tied with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in second-round scenarios for the October election.
