CBS News Cuts Ties with '60 Minutes' Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi

CBS News has parted ways with longtime '60 Minutes' correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, according to sources familiar with the matter. Her contract was not renewed over the weekend, making her an at-will employee.

Contract Not Renewed

The Wall Street Journal reported that Alfonsi's contract expired and was not renewed. In December, she challenged Editor in Chief Bari Weiss's decision to hold a '60 Minutes' segment on a maximum-security prison in El Salvador.

Allegations of Political Interference

Alfonsi called the decision a political move. Weiss stated the segment needed additional reporting. The piece, titled 'Inside CECOT,' aired in January with added context.

Alfonsi said in a statement that the expiration of her contract was 'a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize factually accurate reporting' and sends a chilling message to the newsroom.
