CXMT Unlikely to Threaten HBM Leaders in Next Three Years

CXMT's Position in the HBM Market

According to HSBC analysts, Chinese memory chip maker CXMT is unlikely to pose a threat to global memory-chip leaders in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) within the next three years, but could compete in legacy segments.

Market Dynamics

While major DRAM suppliers focus on higher-margin server memory, supply in consumer segments such as smartphones, PCs, and automotive has loosened. CXMT has been offering older-generation DDR4 chips at roughly half the prevailing market rate to capture market share.

Technology Gap

However, CXMT still trails Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron by approximately three years in advanced DRAM node development. Yield rates on new production lines remain the key variable.
