India Markets Midday Update: Stocks, Rupee, Bonds, Swaps
The benchmark BSE Sensex edged down 0.1% to 75,927, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 index was nearly flat at 23,897. Heavyweight HDFC Bank's decline offset gains in metal stocks, as caution prevailed over a shaky truce between the U.S. and Iran.
Rupee and Forex
The Indian rupee was little changed against the U.S. dollar at 95.7. Dollar sales from state-run banks capped some decline, though the South Asian currency remains under pressure.
Government Bonds
The benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 96.57 rupees, with the yield slightly down at 6.9839%. Lower U.S. Treasury yields and softer oil prices offset caution over renewed U.S.-Iran tensions.
Swaps and Money Market
The one-year overnight index swap rate fell 3.5 bps to 6.1025%, and the five-year swap rate dropped 3 bps to 6.6125%. India's overnight call money rate stood at 5.20%, while the TREPS rate was at 5.35%.
