India Stock Market and Rupee Update

Indian stocks edged lower on March 30, 2025. The BSE Sensex fell 0.19% to 75,867.8, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 declined 0.03% to 23,907.15. Losses in heavyweight HDFC Bank offset gains in metal stocks amid cautious trading due to a fragile U.S.-Iran truce.

Rupee and Forex Market

The Indian rupee was nearly unchanged against the U.S. dollar at 95.69. Traders monitored oil price gyrations and signs of central bank intervention in spot and forward markets to support the beleaguered currency.

Government Bonds and Swap Rates

The benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 96.5625 rupees, with the yield down almost one basis point to 6.985%. The one-year overnight index swap rate fell nearly 4 basis points to 6.1025%, while the five-year swap rate dropped 3 bps to 6.61%.

Money Market

India's overnight call money rate stood at 5.45%, and the overnight TREPS rate was at 4.85%.
