Retirement Savings Rate Hits All-Time High: Fidelity
Retirement Savings Rate Hits Record High
According to Fidelity's first-quarter retirement trends analysis, savings rates have reached an all-time high. Retirement investors saved an average of 9.6% of their pay despite inflation and market volatility. Combined with employer matches, the total savings rate rose to 14.4%.
401(k) and IRA Contributions Surge
The average 401(k) balance was $141,000, down 4% from the previous quarter due to market volatility. Contributions to individual retirement accounts (IRAs) hit record highs, with Roth IRA contributions accounting for 67% of the total.
Income Inequality and TrumpIRA Initiative
83% of adults with annual household income over $100,000 have a retirement savings plan, compared to 28% of those earning less than $50,000. The Trump administration aims to address retirement system inequities with the TrumpIRA initiative, which will introduce the Saver's Match program.
