Swedish Debt Office raises budget deficit forecasts for 2026 and 2027.

Sweden's debt office said on Thursday it expects the country to run a fiscal budget deficit this year of 196 billion Swedish crowns ($21.08 billion), and a deficit of 208 billion in 2027.

Its previous forecasts, from November 2025, were for deficits of 173 billion crowns and 194 billion, respectively. The new projections indicate a widening deficit for both years.

Economic Outlook and Implications

The revised forecasts reflect challenges in the Swedish economy and increased spending needs. Higher budget deficits signal important considerations for public debt management and future fiscal policies.

Given the exchange rate (1 USD = 9.2973 SEK), the magnitude of the deficits becomes clearer.
