Two Texas Refineries Report Flaring Incidents Over Weekend

A power outage Friday evening led to more than 24 hours of flaring at Flint Hills Resources' 365,000 b/d Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery, the company said in an environmental report. Staff initiated prompt action to minimize emissions, and the event was ongoing at the time of the report.

In a separate incident, Exxon reported an upset involving the hydrocracker that led to flaring at its 637,400 b/d Beaumont refinery. The incident began late Friday afternoon and lasted a little over five hours. The company stated no offsite impacts were reported and they expect to meet all contractual commitments.

Both incidents were reported to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The companies noted that the durations provided are estimates and actual events may vary.
