Drought Conditions Ease on US East Coast

According to the US Drought Monitor, extreme dryness on the East Coast, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic and southern portions, has eased over the past week. Extreme drought has lessened in states like Virginia and North Carolina.

Agricultural Impact

Corn planting in North Carolina is behind last year's pace, while soybean planting is ahead. Meanwhile, the US Plains—mainly Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska—continue to experience extreme drought stress, with less than 5% of Nebraska free from dryness.

Outlook

The NOAA Climate Prediction Center expects further dryness across the US over the next two weeks.
